I spent more than ten years in market intelligence. I rarely handed my presentation deck to the audience, even if I was asked because people had a tendency to use one or two slides out of context and use them for proving a point. It led to several misunderstandings and missteps.
What I am seeing now in light of the virus is a similar scenario. It is the outcome of a sense of panic that is caused by what is “so very unknown.” People are cruising the internet for information and posting articles, videos, etc. on emails, WhatsApp, and other social media vehicles. Such unvalidated information could cause damage if people take them seriously. One doctor told me that such misinformation is making the job more difficult for the medical community. Let us leave the research to the experts.
